FORD CUSTOM

Heating Repair & Maintenance Fit-Out

The Brief

This Ford Transit Custom SWB was brought in by a company specialising in the repair and maintenance of heating systems. With limited space available in a short wheelbase van, the customer needed a layout that could securely store a wide range of tools and materials while staying well-organised and accessible for daily use.

The focus was on maximising functionality through smart racking, secure toolbox storage, and dedicated compartments for long items such as pipes and ladders. As the van would be used for call-outs and day-to-day servicing, it needed to offer quick access to smaller parts like valves, fittings, and testing kits, while also providing a durable finish that could withstand regular use in a busy work environment.

Customer Requirements

  • A smart storage system suitable for a short wheelbase van
  • Secure storage for up to 10 Stanley and Makita toolboxes
  • Dedicated compartments for 3m pipe and long ladders
  • Organised racking for smaller components such as valves, fittings, and test kits
  • Easy access to frequently used items from both rear and side doors
  • A strong, professional finish suitable for regular on-site maintenance work

What We Installed

  • Full false floor with integrated 3m pipe storage
  • Ladder storage with double-shelf layout and a hatch behind to access dead space
  • Pull-out drawer with removable dividers for flexible storage
  • Euro box container racking to both sides of the van — 18 in total
  • Angled racking designed to hold up to 10 Stanley and Makita toolboxes
  • All finished in 12mm Hexa Phenolic for a hard-wearing, professional look

Final Outcome

This compact Ford Custom was transformed into a highly functional and well-structured mobile workspace. Despite the restricted space of a short wheelbase van, the fit-out delivered a versatile combination of underfloor storage, racking, and toolbox organisation that maximised every available inch.

The full false floor created a clean and secure lower section for pipework and long ladders, while also incorporating a pull-out drawer with removable dividers for adaptable small parts storage. By allowing 3m pipe to run through the bulkhead, we preserved valuable interior space without compromising load capacity.

The inclusion of Euro box container racking on both sides provided accessible, clearly organised storage for smaller components, while the angled racking securely housed 10 Stanley and Makita toolboxes. Finishing the van in 12mm Hexa Phenolic flooring added a layer of durability, making it more than capable of handling the wear and tear of daily maintenance work.

Overall, this layout offers the perfect balance of structure, flexibility, and strength — supporting efficient workflows on-site while keeping everything tidy, secure, and ready to go.
