VW CADDY SWB

Electrical Contractor Fit-Out

The Brief

This VW Caddy SWB was brought to us by an electrical contractor who wanted to add a false floor system to his van. The primary goal was to create secure and organised tool storage while keeping the open interior space available for weekend camping trips. He planned to use the van for both work and leisure, so the setup needed to balance practicality for daily jobs with the flexibility to fit a mattress for sleeping when away from home.

The customer’s requirements included a lockable space for storing high-value electrical tools such as cordless drills, screwdrivers, voltage testers, cable cutters, PPE, and various consumables. He also wanted maximum use of the space under the false floor, ensuring every inch was functional without compromising headroom or accessibility. Easy access to tools from both the rear and the side door was essential to minimise downtime on site and keep the van efficient for everyday work.

Customer Requirements

  • Create a secure and organised storage solution without compromising the open space inside the van
  • Allow space above the false floor for a mattress to be laid out for weekend camping
  • Provide a lockable compartment for storing high-value tools
  • Maximise storage space within the false floor design
  • Include a dedicated sectioned drawer for organising smaller tools and consumables
  • Ensure easy access to storage from both the rear and side doors
  • Keep the layout adaptable for both work and leisure use

What We Installed

  • Full false floor system designed to maximise underfloor storage space
  • One Armorgard secure compartment for high-value tools
  • Large pull-out rear drawer with divider sections for organised tool storage
  • Additional pull-out drawer accessible from the side door, using otherwise wasted space behind the rear drawers
  • Sectioned storage to suit cordless drills, screwdrivers, voltage testers, cable cutters, PPE, and consumables
  • Robust, easy-glide drawer runners for smooth operation
  • Space above the false floor left completely open for mattress placement and weekend camping use

Final Outcome

The completed fit-out delivered the perfect balance between secure storage and maintaining open space for leisure use. The full false floor provided a discreet and efficient storage solution, while the lockable Armorgard compartment ensured the customer’s most valuable tools could be stored with complete peace of mind. The large sectioned rear drawer offered excellent organisation for everyday work items, keeping them neatly separated and easy to locate.

By incorporating an additional side-access drawer, we were able to make full use of the otherwise wasted space behind the main drawers, giving the customer quick access to tools without having to climb into the van. The open layout above the false floor meant the van could be quickly adapted for camping at weekends, retaining the flexibility the customer wanted. The final result was a practical, secure, and multi-functional setup that worked seamlessly for both professional and personal use.
